Bio-molecular Analysis Platform

Platform Description
The Bio-molecular Analysis (BMA) Platform from the Arc Lémanique Plant Science is directed by Prof. Teresa Fitzpatrick from the University of Geneva and offers:
- protein analysis services managed by Dr. Markus Kaufmann at the University of Geneva and
- Fourier-transform IR micro-spectroscopy manged by Dr. Sylwester Mazurek at the University of Lausanne.

Both, the BMA Geneva and BMA Lausanne are available to members of the SPSW. Please directly contact the responsible platform manager in Geneva or Lausanne. The person in charge can direct you in the planning of your experiment, most importantly on the optimal preparation of samples and inform you about prices of the services.

Each network integrated in the SPSW allows its members as well as the members of other networks to benefit from technical and material support with equipment that would be difficult to acquire by individual groups.


Why Bio-molecular Analysis?

The BMA platform's aim is to support scientists interested in protein complexes, ligand interaction and changes in chemical composition. The BMA platform provides the following :

It offers an access to specialized techniques necessary in the present "omic" era:
- while much data/ information can be obtained with "omic" technologies, functionality of the individual components is still necessary,
- it allows more precision needed at the cellular and molecular level.

It opens the door to technology
perhaps not previously considered within the Swiss Plant Science community.

It goes back to the roots,
performing detailed biophysical characterisation or chemical composition analysis now with state of the art instrumentation.
