Second and third year exams in modern English literature

Modern Literature (English and American, English Section, BA Exams

The second-year BA exam in Modern Literature

The second-year exam in Modern literature (English or American) is a two-hour written exam. The material on which candidates are examined consists of:

  1. A passage from the explication de textes seminar you followed, either in the winter or the summer semester
  2. A 3-group reading list, based on the material in either the winter semester "Introduction to Modern Literature" lectures (ELS 2) or the summer semester lecture course "Introduction to English Poetry".

You are required to write one essay, most of which should be devoted to an analysis of the passage from the "explication" class. In the course of this analysis you should briefly make pertinent comparisons with at least one of your reading-list texts along the lines suggested by the lecture course and/or by the seminar.
