Literacy Practices and Representations, 23 May 2008

Since the publication of the various OECD reports of the International Adult Literacy Survey, many researchers have investigated issues related to literacy practices as well as the ability to communicate effectively in the written medium so as to have a voice in literate societies.

Within this research context, we - that is, the English Department of the University of Lausanne and the Institut de linguistique et des sciences du langage (ILSL) - are organising, a one-day conference on "Literacy Practices and Representations: Social Needs for Literacy, Obstacles and Development of Literacy Competence".

This conference will present recent developments in Literacy Studies in different countries and will discuss possible ways of improving literacy skills.
