B - DOCTORAL COURSES
-----------------------------
The UNIL offers a broad spectrum of doctoral courses and tutorials open to EPFL and UNIL students.
- CIIL COURSES - equivalent to TUTORIALS
FORMAT: 10 weekly 2-hour sessions, with a lecture by invited key speakers, followed by a discussion of scientific papers.
SESSIONS : One in Spring, one in Autumn
CREDIT: 3

When organized by our PhD Program, sessions are held in Epalinges on Fridays (unless indicated otherwise) in our seminar rooms from 9:00 to 11:30, followed by a seminar given at 12:15 by an invited speaker.
- UNIL COURSES
The UNIL offers a wide choice of doctoral courses /tutorials.
NB: Credits indicated in the course book must be confirmed by the PhD Program chairman
- EPFL COURSES
The EPFL offers a broad spectrum of doctoral courses and practicals also open UNIL and LICR students.

- EMBnet COURSES
The Swiss Institutes of Bioinformatics run introductory and advanced courses on bioinformatics, biostatistics, computer modelling and programming. Credits are indicated in the course book. Link
- IIIème Cycle COURSES
The universities of the French-speaking part of Switzerland propose through the IIIème Cycle a series of courses and practicals. Among them is an international scientific meeting held in Villars every September, and graduate students are strongly encouraged to attend. Credits are indicated in the course book.
- MOUSE COURSE
1 credit
Mouse experimentation module 1: 1 credit is given for attending the 20h practical part (20h of lectures are not accredited). Courses are in French, German or English. Mouse experimentation module 2: no credit given.
NB.: Other courses may be taken into account in agreement with the chairperson of the PhD program committee.
- Courses are credited on the basis of 1 credit for 25 to 30 hours of lectures/practicals/homework/personal work provided the student's performance is evaluated (ECTS accreditation system).
Attending/speaking/presenting a poster at a scientific meeting or attending seminars is encouraged but does not count as credits. - Course certificates must be transmitted to the PhD program office.
C - RESEARCH ROTATION MODULES

Students can participate in a module of practical work (2 days per module) organized by individual laboratories to get acquainted with research topics necessary for their cursus. These modules are not mandatory, but recommended.
FORMAT: a 2-day module
SESSION: any time during the year, organized individually by participating laboratories.
CREDIT : 1 credit per module
D - CANCER LUNCH SEMINARS

Cancer Progress Reports Seminars series 2012. Our goal is to stimulate the interactions of PhD students of "Cancer and Immunology" school and postdocs working in cancer research at the UNIL and CHUV, and to present and freely discuss the ongoing work.
Meetings will take place from 12:15 to 13:15 at B305 at Epalinges, and will include two 20 min presentations +10 min discussion/talk
Few ground rules and information.
1.To favor the presentation of unpublished results the seminars are confidential (i.e. data presented should not be discussed outside the meeting)
2. PhD students attending at least 50% percent of seminars and presenting a talk will obtain 1 EST credit/academic year from the PhD program
3. The seminars will take place every two weeks, on Wednesdays, and a sign-up list will be distributed during the meeting
E – IMMUNOLOGY PROGRESS REPORT

Immunology Progress Report series 2012 / 2013 - Wednesdays, 19 September 2012 to 3 April 2013
The goal is to provide PhD students of the "Cancer and Immunology" program and postdocs an opportunity to give a formal presentation of their research in Immunology and to discuss their ongoing work with colleagues and faculty.
Meetings will take place on Wednesdays from 16:30 to 17:15 at B305 at Epalinges, and will include a 30 min presentation + 15 min discussion.

2. PhD students attending at least 50% percent of seminars and giving a presentation will obtain 1 EST credit/academic year from the PhD program
3. A sign-up list will be distributed during each session.
