Degree in Mathematics EPFZ (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, 1980).
Doctorate in Mathematics EPFZ (1983).
Part-time lecturer at the EPFZ from 1981 to 1984; researcher at Northwestern University, Evanston (USA) from 1984 to 1985; Visiting Professor at Ohio State University, Columbus (USA) in 1987; Assistant Professor at the Institute of Mathematics of the University of Lausanne from 1988 to 1994; Visiting Professor at MacMaster University, Hamilton (Canada) in 1989; Full Professor at the University of Lausanne since 1994; President of the Mathematics Section of the University of Lausanne from 1996 to 2000; Dean of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lausanne from 2000 to 2003; Vice-Rector of the University of Lausanne from 2003 to 2006.
Rector of the University of Lausanne since 1st September 2006.
Fields of research
Mathematics: algebraic topology, cohomology of groups and algebraic K-theory.
