Mario Bacher is a PhD student at the CVMR and part-time employee of Siemens Healthineers. He works on the “Pilot Tone” project, a contactless electro-magnetic motion sensing system for applications in cardiac MRI.

Mario earned his BSc and MSc in Biomedical Engineering from Graz University of Technology in Austria, where he got hooked on MRI. He went to Erlangen, Germany for his BSc thesis and then again for his Master thesis, evaluating the feasibility of the Pilot Tone navigator system for cardiac applications under Prof. Rudolf Stollberger and Dr. Peter Speier. After graduating in 2018, he decided to stay in Erlangen and continue his work as a PhD student. He joined the CVMR in 2018 and now focuses on developing real-time signal processing techniques and finding exciting new applications for the Pilot Tone.

Mario lives in Erlangen and regularly visits the CVMR. In his free time he enjoys skiing, cooking and playing the guitar.
