Tenure Track Assistant or Associate Professor in Fundamental Computational Biology

The Faculty of Biology and Medicine (FBM) of the University of Lausanne is inviting applications for position of:

 

Tenure Track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in

Fundamental Computational Biology

at the Department of Computational Biology

 

 

Starting date: to be agreed

Place: Lausanne, Switzerland

Contract length: 2 years renewable, max. 6 years

Rate: 100%

 

The Department of Computational Biology (DBC) is internationally renowned for its excellent research in the development of models to analyse complex and large scale biological data. The DBC is l ooking for an outstanding junior individual whose research excels in fundamental computational biology (e.g. phylogenomics; statistical genomics; modeling of gene evolution, expression and function) with a focus on the development of algorithms or models to understand biological systems and/or methods to analyse large scale biological data at different evolutionary scales (either omics or other). Expertise and contributions is expected on both the biological and computer science side.

Main tasks:

  • develop an internationally recognized research programme funded by external sources
  • supervise Master and PhD students
  • participate in teaching activities by the Department.

Desired profile:

  • PhD in biological sciences, computer science or engineering
  • a proven track-record of outstanding research achievements, original ideas and successful funding applications
  • a good knowledge of French or aptitude to learn it.

The Department has excellent computational facilities and access to the latest computer infrastructure. A wet lab is also available. Access to imaging, metabolomics, proteomics, and genomics platforms is available on campus. A start-up package as well as a yearly research allowance for positions and consumables will be available within a dynamic research environment.
