AFM permits the measurement of the mechanical properties of living material at a nanometric scale. AFM is used in collaboration with the Laboratory of the Physics of Living Matter at the EPFL to study the mechanical properties of proteins, cell membranes, cytoskeleton compounds and whole cells. The measurements are accomplished in liquid and almost physiological conditions. |
