Combined laser capture microdissection (LCM) and gene expression analysis in the nervous system

The combination of LCM and gene expression analysis (quantitative real-time PCR or microarrays) offers the possibility of investigating transcriptional profiles in chosen single cells, cell subpopulations or brain areas of interest taken from a tissue section mounted on a slide.
This approach was developed in collaboration with groups at the University of Geneva, focusing on specific sensory neurons by the use of retrograde tracing in an experimental model of pain and with the purpose of providing an unprecedented overview of transcriptional modification in nociceptors and an improved understanding of chronic pain mechanisms.
