I am interested in the influences that the environment can have on sex determination in various salmonid species of the prealpine region (european grayling Thymallus thymallus, brown trout Salmo trutta and whitefish Coregonus sp.). Currently I try to find an explanation for an otherwise unexplained dramatic shift in operational sex ratio in a population of european graylings in Lake Thun. Different water temperatures and sex steroids are tested in order to understand the situation and set a scientific basis on which countermeasures could be developed.
