Welcome to the Division of Experimental Oncology (DEO) of the Centre Pluridisciplinaire d'Oncologie (CePO), Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) and University of Lausanne (UNIL)!
The mission of the DEO is to perform innovative experimental cancer research aimed at unraveling cellular and molecular mechanisms of cancer progression with the goal to devise novel diagnostic, monitoring and therapeutic approaches to improve cancer management and patient care.
Our research is driven by clinically-relevant questions and our research interests and expertise's span from basic research in cellular and molecular biology to early clinical research. We have various collaborations with cancer research groups and clinical institutions at the local, national and international level, and we are actively involved in clinical studies.
The unifying research interest of the DEO is the study of the tumor microenvironment, and its contribution to local tumor progression and distant metastasis formation (tumor-host interaction). More specifically we are focusing on three topics:
- angiogenesis, lymphangiogenesis, cancer invasion and metastasis, during tumor progression, and their modulation for therapeutic purposes (Groups Rüegg and Petrova);
- monitoring immune response in cancer patients during immunotherapeutic approaches (Group Rufer);
- molecular modeling of receptor ligand-interactions as a creative tool to design new molecules for therapeutic purposes (Group Michielin).
Enjoy the visit!
