Jean-Pierre Danthine admitted as a Corresponding Academician of Spain's Royal Academy of Economic and Financial Sciences

Jean-Pierre Danthine, Honorary Professor in the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Lausanne and a renowned economist, has just been appointed as a Corresponding Academician of Spain's Royal Academy of Economic and Financial Sciences (RACEF). He will represent Switzerland at this prestigious institution, which supports the promotion of scientific cooperation between the most brilliant international researchers and academics. The Faculty of Business and Economics congratulates him on the honour, which reflects the excellence of his scientific research.

Jean-Pierre Danthine has been officially appointed at a ceremony in Barcelona on 17 November (to which the Direction of the University of Lausanne have been invited). His inaugural speech was entitled "Monetary policy in light of the crisis".

Spain's internationally renowned Royal Academy of Economic and Financial Sciences (RACEF) promotes scientific cooperation by organising seminars, conferences and meetings and through sharing publications and information between outstanding researchers. It also welcomes business people and executives in the economic and financial sectors, who cooperate alongside members of the institution and academics.

Professor Danthine taught economics and finance at HEC Lausanne from 1980 to 2010 and managed the Swiss Finance Institute. He played an active role in creating the Department of Finance and launched the Faculty's PhD programme in finance. As a specialist in business cycle theory and assessing financial assets, his academic research has been published in the most prestigious finance and economics journals, including the Journal of Finance, Econometrica, Journal of Political Economy and Review of Economic Studies.

He was initially elected to the Board of the Swiss National Bank and later served as its Vice President, from 2012 to the summer of 2015. He has recently taught at Columbia University (New York) and the Einaudi Institute in Rome. He was appointed President of the Paris School of Economics (PSE) in September 2015.
