Welcome at the Department of Medical Genetics
The Department of Medical Genetics (DMG/DGM) is a research unit (created in 2005) within the School of Biology and Medicine (SBM/FBM) of the University of Lausanne, in the framework of the SVS project (Sciences-Vie-Société). The Department is physically located at Rue du Bugnon 27, opposite to the University hospital (CHUV).
Medical genetics is a field of genetics that studies the relationship between structures and functions of human DNA and hereditary diseases. Starting from DNA of patients with genetic diseases (obtained, for example, from blood samples), medical genetics researchers work on the identification of the defective genes at the basis of the diseases, ultimately to seek for possible therapies.
