Research Theme: Ecology and Evolution of Staphylococci
Metagenomic and microbial ecology associated to Staphylococci
My research interests concern the mechanisms of nasal carriage of Staphylococcus aureus.
The nose is the main ecological niche where S. aureus resides, but factors implicated by nasal carriage are not fully known. The mechanisms leading to S. aureus nasal carriage could be related to several factors, such as bacterial surface properties, genetic predisposition of the host and/or a peculiar microbial environment, including the presence of bacteria and viruses.
My work focuses on human nasal microbiota, I use molecular techniques employed in microbial ecology to appraise whether a specific pattern of microbial environment is associated with carriage of S. aureus.
