Overview: Programme in Life sciences
In parallel to their thesis research, and in addition to the participation in activities and research conferences organized by the hiring department, PhD doctoral students attend lectures and participate in local, national and international scientific events (seminars and congresses).
The Doctoral School organizes a programme of accredited events, which is part of the PhD Doctorate in Life Sciences and allows to obtain the 12 ECTS credits as required by our Rules (of which at least 4 during the first year: 2 with the participation in 2 tutorials; 2 with the participation in other events - courses, seminars, congresses).
The doctoral programme covers the different research fields represented in the Faculty of Biology and Medicine in four different kinds of training:

| "3e cycle" Courses/Lectures | 0.5 to 4 | Certificate of successful participation and ECTS credits according to the workload (presence, preparation to the sessions, preparation of a presentation or of a final evaluation test). |
| Series of external seminars of the Faculty |
1 for 12 sessions or 1 for 6 sessions followed by a prepared discussion |
Series of seminars inviting speakers external to the Faculty. |
| Congresses, national or international | 1 | Presentation of a poster as first author or talk. |

Interested in a programme with a thematic study option?
You have the possibility to register in a programme in life sciences with one thematic study option (in a list of five topics).
How to register? In parallel with the admission process, the student contacts the coordinator of the programme selected to get enrolled in the thematic programme.
We recommend
1. that you keep registered at UNIL as a doctoral student until the thesis copies are at the «Bibliothèque Cantonale et Universitaire» (according to the rules of the Doctorate in Life Sciences and to maintain your informatic facilities)
2. that you always keep the original of the certifying documents and give copies to the Doctoral School
