Several doctoral trainings exist at UNIL:
- Doctorate (PhD)
- Doctorate in neuroscience (PhD)
Each of them have specific requirements regarding courses to follow and "ECTS" credits to obtain.

Doctoral programme in Life Sciences (PhD)
In parallel to their thesis research, PhD students attend courses, seminars and conferences, i.e. they participate in local, national and international scientific events.
Regarding courses:
- The Doctoral School organizes a programme in Life Sciences which covers several research fields.
- The student can also attend other courses ouside our programme. In this case, we evaluate the course programme for its accreditation.
Future PhD students: How do you proceed to register ?
You contact the admissions centre of the UNIL and start the registration process (Check admission conditions).
At the end of the doctoral studies a certificate of the events attended within the programme is delivered.
Note also that the training is required by our Rules and Guidelines.

Doctoral programme in Life Sciences (PhD) with a thematic study option
PhD students have the opportunity to enrol in a thematic programme related to their thesis research [in agreement with their thesis director]. The training correponds to a Doctorate in Life Sciences associated with a thematic programme.
Five thematic programmes are currently organized:
- Cardiovascular and Metabolism
- Ecology and Evolution
- Cancer and Immunology
- Integrated Experimental and Computational Biology
- Microbial Sciences
Future PhD students: How do you proceed to register ?
To obtain a certificate which attests you fulfilled the requirements of the thematic program selected :
-You contact the admissions centre of the UNIL and start the registration process (Check admission conditions).
-In parallel, and with the agreement of your thesis director, you contact the appropriate program coordinator to register in the program.
Note that the official enrolment in the thematic program is only possible during the admission process at UNIL.

Lemanic Neuroscience Doctoral School
For the Doctorate in Neuroscience, combined University of Lausanne - University of Geneva, the Lemanic Neuroscience Doctoral School (LNDS) organizes student training both in theoretical and experimental aspects of neuroscience.
Research projects take place at affiliated laboratories in Geneva and Lausanne. Students receive their training through comprehensive coursework within the LN Program and by attending seminars, journal clubs and workshops. They are also encouraged, and often sponsored, to present their research at national and international neuroscience conferences.
