Welcome to the 1st conference of the graduate students of the Ecology and Evolution doctoral program of Western Switzerland. This year's conference is being held on October 23rd 2008 at the University of Lausanne in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The SeeDS conference (Symposium of Ecology and Evolution Doctoral Students) is a fun and stress-free meeting organized by the graduate students for graduate and post-doctoral researchers in ecology and evolutionary biology to discuss their current research and meet new colleagues from across Switzerland and abroad. You do not have to present a talk to attend the conference and we welcome all interested students to join us and learn.
SeeDS 2008 will feature talks by Prof. Jacques van Alphen, Dr. Michael Brockhurst and Dr. Pamela Alean-Kirkpatrick, and will also give selected students the opportunity to present their research.
Invited speakers will give you an overview on their major findings and the latest exciting updates on their discoveries. Not only, they will also tell you about their life experience as researchers and give you hints on the exciting world of science.
Talks will be followed by a round table on academic pathways and career management. This will provide participants with a unique opportunity to discuss in an informal setting and with outstanding researchers the "features" to be successful in academics and elsewhere. Doctoral students are of course highly encouraged to join the conference and take part in the discussion.
A refreshing aperitif will follow to conclude in the best way this day. Those who wish to continue the discussion and reinforce contacts with other doctoral students can join for a dinner or a drink in town.
Registration is due by October 10th 2008. No fee is charged for conference attendance but registration is required. Abstracts for oral presentations are due by September 28th 2008.
PhD students belonging to the ee doctoral program can ask for their travel costs to be reimbursed.
Participation in this event is granted 0.5 ECTS for those who give also a talk. PhD students only attending the day can count the 3 talks from the invitted speakers as 3 seminars.
