The sacrificial area discovered to the north of the Sanctuary of Apollo Daphnephoros, the tutelary divinity of Eretria, was in use from the late 8th century B.C. Around a circular altar lay thousands of miniature hydriae, along with several high-necked Archaic jugs decorated with female figures, numerous Oriental imports and animal bones. After a careful study of the excavation data, Sandrine Huber describes the rites carried out in the area for over two centuries. Attributed to Artemis, the cult may have been practised by the women of the city.

L'Aire sacrificielle découverte au nord du Sanctuaire d'Apollon Daphnéphoros, divinité poliade d'Erétrie, était organisée dès la fin du VIIIe siècle avant J.-C. autour d'un autel circulaire. Elle a livré des milliers d'hydries miniatures, un lot de cruches à haut col d'époque archaïque décorées de représentations de femmes, de nombreux objets d'origine orientale, ainsi que des ossements d'animaux. Après avoir analysé les données de la fouille, l'auteur décrit les rites pratiqués sur l'aire durant plus de deux siècles. Le culte, attribué à Artémis, pourrait avoir été l'oeuvre des femmes de la cité.

Der Opferplatz, der nördlich des Heiligtums von Apollon Daphnephoros, dem Schutzgott von Eretria, entdeckt wurde, bestand seit dem späten 8. Jahrhundert v. Chr. Um einen runden Altar lagen tausende von Miniaturhydrien zusammen mit einigen archaischen Krügen mit hohem Hals, die mit Frauenfiguren bemalt waren, zahlreiche Importstücke aus dem Osten und Tierknochen. Sandrine Huber legt die Grabungsergebnisse dar und bespricht die Rituale, die während über zweihundert Jahren an diesem Platz stattfanden. Der Kult, der Artemis zugeschrieben wird, war vielleicht den Frauen der Stadt eigen.
