Compulsory schooling in the canton of Vaud lasts for 11 years and is split into two stages: primary schooling (1P-8P) and secondary I schooling (9S-11S).
According to the Swiss Compulsory Schooling Act (LEO), children start their compulsory education once they have reached four years of age (as at 31 July).
Public schooling is free of charge and delivered in 90 schools, grouped into eight regions.
