Mouse Pathology Facility (MPF)

Mouse Pathology

The intent of this service is to provide an in-depth histological analysis of mice which have been genetically altered (either transgenic "knock-in" or "knock-out" mice). This collaborative Unit was established to both provide a service to molecular biologists, as well as allowing our Assistants in Pathology to partake in research projects taking place in Switzerland. The costs of our analysis is presently assured by our institute, unless a more extensive study must be undertaken. In return we ask that the assistant responsible for the analysis be included on all publications either presenting or citing the results. All projects are supervised by senior staff members. Initially, all organs will be examined by sections stained with Hemotoxylin and Eosin staining. Further examination may require additional procedures, namely immunohistochemistry and/or X-ray analysis. Internal seminars will be set up to discuss difficult to interpret observations. Prior to the initiation of a project we ask that a research agreement be completed and signed. We would also ask that the appropriate references for the gene which was "knocked in" or "knocked out" be provided. Not only should the genetically altered mice be provided, but also the wild type strain from which they were generated. This Unit is supported by the director of the Institute of Pathology, Frederic T. Bosman and the director of Experimental Pathology, Ivan Stamenkovic.

Statistics from first half of 2008
