The Centre
Walras-Pareto was founded in 1990 at the
Department of Law of the University of
Lausanne around the Chair of political
economy held at the time by Léon Walras and
Vilfredo Pareto. Nowadays at the Department
of Social and Political Sciences, the Centre
Walras-Pareto is an interdisciplinary team
whose research focuses on the history of
economic thought, economic philosophy and
history of political thought.

 « Dear
English-speakers colleagues, this is the first
newsletter of the Center Walras-Pareto of
Interdisciplinary Studies in Economic and
Political Thought (CWP) to appear with a
partial English edition. Our previous
newsletters in French are available on the
CWP's website.
2015 begins with a major event for the CWP. It
is an honour for us to welcome Harro Maas, who
succeeds Pascal Bridel. The arrival of a new
professor in our team is obviously a landmark
event and as Harro is a very nice person full
of ideas, we look forward to see the results
of this new collaboration.
The year 2014 was full of events for the CWP.
At the University of Lausanne, this was our
first year at the Faculté des sciences sociales et
politiques (Department of social and
political sciences). In 2014 we also had the
pleasure to welcome at CWP the collaborators
of the former CHIPI (Centre d'Histoire des Idées
Politiques et des Institutions). Both
integrations went smoothly and proved highly
stimulating.
The CWP's whole staff
was absorbed during the first six months of
the year by the organization of the 18th
Annual Conference of the ESHET. For a few days
in May, Lausanne was the gathering place for
historians of economic thought in the world: An
exciting and satisfactory experience! The CWP
had the pleasure of welcoming professors Agnès
Festré and Richard Arena for a series of
lectures on economic rationality for PhD
students and postdocs.
Among the great achievements
of last year, we are proud to annouce the
defense of two doctoral dissertations in the
history of economic thought and economic
philosophy, the result of successful
collaborations with the universities of Lyon 2
Lumière and Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. Our
sincere congratulations to Antoine Missemer
and Nicolas Brisset for their outstanding
dissertations. The CWP is looking for new
collaborators (see below), and it will
celebrate its 25th anniversary this year: do
not miss this event! »

Nicolas Brisset,
assistant at CWP between 2009 and 2014,
defended on 11th December 2014 his PhD
dissertation in the cotutelle doctoral

of Roberto Baranzini and Jérôme Lallement.
- Maxime
Desmarais-Tremblay realised a stay in
the Richard A. Musgrave archives in June
2014, thanks to a research scholarship from
the Friends of the Princeton
University Library.
- The
theme of populism
was at the heart of Antoine Chollet's
seminar « Fondements de la pensée
contemporaine ». His students realised,
under his supervision, five papers, which
were published in the Swiss daily newspaper
Le
Courrier (1-2-3),
and on the blog sociopublique
(4-5).

hosted in March 2015 Professor Kayoko
Misaki, from Shiga University, Japan, for
her research on books that belonged to Leon
(and even his father Auguste) Walras. Thank
