Basic Discipline
French as a Foreign Language studied as a basic discipline is worth 70 ECTS credits. It constitutes one of the two basic disciplines of a Bachelor of Arts Degree (BA) worth 180 ECTS credits. A BA including FFL as a basic discipline certifies a high level of expertise in the French language and theoretical knowledge of the reference disciplines for FFL. It offers non French-speaking students an opportunity to include French in their studies and thus improve their proficiency in this language, while at the same time acquiring new theoretical knowledge (linguistics, literature and the didactics of second and foreign languages) on this subject.
Complementary Discipline
This diploma is intended for students whose culture and/or language of reference is not French (upper secondary school leaving certificate obtained in a non French-speaking country or territory).
It is worth 40 ECTS credits, which represent a 3rd discipline. This 3rd discipline may be completed in the 1st year of the Master's degree with 30 ECTS credits so that, in the end, it will also be worth 70 ECTS credits, like a basic discipline.
If they choose FFL as a complementary discipline, the students have two other basic disciplines. To be able to choose this course, they must have academic qualifications entitling them to register with the University of Lausanne.
Options Programme
EFLE offers an internal Options Programme (40 ECTS credits) for the Bachelor of Arts Degree. This programme is intended for students whose culture and/or language of reference is not French (upper secondary school leaving certificate obtained in a non French-speaking country or cantonal territory).
Modules offered by EFLE
EFLE also offers external option modules in Creative Writing and Academic Writing: these two modules worth 10 ECTS credits each are also available for French-speaking students. A third module worth 10 credits and dedicated to Tandem is reserved for non French-speaking students.
