Our lab started in 2007 when Niko Geldner joined the Department of Plant Molecular Biology at the University of Lausanne as an Assistant Professor. Currently, our group works on two major lines of research. The first is investigating the root endodermis; its differentiation and function. The second, more recent line of research, is concerned with the specificities of root immune responses and the molecular basis of root-bacteria interactions.

Our laboratory is located in the Biophore building at the beautiful Dorigny campus on the shores of lake Geneva (lac Léman). The Department of Plant Molecular Biology (DBMV) is the biggest center in Switzerland exclusively dedicated to molecular research in plant biology. The Department is part of the Faculty of Biology and Medicine that is spread over different locations in Lausanne. The Dorigny campus provides a very dynamic research environment and hosts many of the fundamental science labs of the Faculty and is neighbor to the EPFL (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne), one of the two Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology.
