Regulator of G-protein signalling (RGS) proteins negatively regulate heterotrimeric G-protein signalling through their conserved RGS domains. RGS domains act as GTPase-activating proteins, accelerating the GTP hydrolysis rate of the activated form of G omnipresent in eukaryotes, RGS proteins have not been adequately analyzed in non-mammalian organisms. The current communication describes crystallization of the complex of the Drosophila melanogaster G interacting partner CG5036. Being just the herald of a bigger paper yet to be published on the unusual interactions of these proteins, the current article illustrates the ongoing collaboration of the lab of V.Katanaev with the Institute of Protein Research in Pushchino (Russia) which possesses useful competences such as protein crystallography.
