LLM Programme Opening: "Leading the reform of the global investment regime?" - The EU's approach towards international investment law

The 13th Otto-Riese-Lecture on occasion of the opening of the Academic year of the LLM Programme in International and European Economic and Commercial Law will be given by Professor Markus Krajewski (University of Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany) who was the author of a report leading to the German Government's proposal to include a permanent investment Court in the agreements concluded by the European Union.
Jeudi 25 février 2016 (16h00 - 17h15)  -  Internef UNIL - Dorigny  -  231

The global investment regime is subject to a fundamental reform debate and may witness a significant paradigm change in the years to come. In its 2015 trade policy "Trade for all", the EU claims to be "best placed (...) to lead the reform of the global investment regime, as its founder and main actor." In this respect, the October 2015 proposal for an investment protection chapter in TTIP is an important first concretization of this goal. The lecture will contextualize and critically assess the new EU approach and discuss whether the EU is indeed leading the reform and if so in which direction.

Markus Krajewski is professor of public and international law at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg. He teaches German constitutional and administrative law, European law, public international law and human rights. His research focusses on international economic law, human rights, European external relations and the law of public services. He wrote four books and authored numerous contributions in scholarly journals and edited volumes. Recently he co-edited "Shifting Paradigms in International Investment Law - More Balanced, Less Isolated, Increasingly Diversified" with Steffen Hindelang (OUP, forthcoming).

Otto-Riese-Memorial Lecture Series
