The workshop unites a group of international scholars working on early Mahāyāna literature and Gandhāran Buddhism. Among the early Buddhist manuscripts discovered in North-West Pakistan there are several texts that are related to early Mahāyāna Buddhism. One of the most important of them is the so-called "Bajaur Mahāyāna sūtra" which is currently being studied by Ingo Strauch and Andrea Schlosser in the framework of a cooperation between the Chair of Buddhist Studies of the University of Lausanne and the project "Buddhist Manuscripts from Gandhāra" at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences (Munich). It is planned to discuss the preliminary results of our work against the background of early Mahāyāna literature preserved in different Buddhist traditions. The workshop will take place from Monday, 25th till Wednesday, 27th. The sessions are not open to the public. Interested persons can apply for participation via ingo.strauch@unil.ch.
