I will discuss travelogues by two very different Hindi authors with a Himalayan Wanderlust. Rahul Sankrityayan (1893-1962) travelled extensively in Tibet and the Himalayan region. He visited Tibet 4 times (in 1929, 1934, 1936, and 1938) and in 1948 he wrote about Kinnaur, in the northeast corner of Himachal Pradesh. Gagan Gill (b. 1959)'s Avak: Kailash-Mansarovar ek antaryatra was published in 2008 and is an account of a pilgrimage in the Himalaya, stemming from a promise she made to her deceased husband, the renowned Hindi writer Nirmal Varma.
