Swiss Public Administration and Institutional Policies

An effective administration and a solid institutional framework are the basis of a well-run state system. Switzerland’s administration – combining the requirements of the rule of State law with a certain openness towards the private sector and its citizens – is one of the most efficient. Federalism, concordance and direct democracy are the three pillars of the country’s political system. They ensure checks on the power of the State and respect for diverging preferences.

The Swiss Public Administration and Institutional Policies unit carries our research, teaching, continuous education and training, doctoral studies and consultancy work. It places the functions of the country’s political and administrative system at the heart of contemporary challenges and the processes of reform.
