Research
My research activity is mainly focused on modelling and simulation (Computational Fluid Dynamics – CFD) of multiphase flow systems from laminar to turbulent conditions. The topics I have covered include: transport and aggregation of colloidal systems, membrane filtration, reacting multiphase turbulent flows, drop deformation and break-up in liquid-liquid turbulent systems. In these works particular attention has been paid on coupling physic-chemical and hydrodynamic interaction. My current post doc project addresses pore scale modelling and simulation of multiphase flows. A Volume Of Fluid (VOF) method is employed for numerical simulation of multiphase flow in the complex porous geometry.
Research interests:
• Multiphase flow (modelling and simulation)
• Wetting and capillary phenomena
• Colloidal systems
• Membrane filtration
• Coupling between physical-chemical and fluid dynamic interactions
• Stochastic differential equations
• Pore-scale modelling
• Turbulent multiphase flows
Curriculum Vitae
After the degree in chemical engineering (2002 – Università degli Studi di Padova) and a year of work in an engineering office I received a PhD (2007) in chemical engineering from the Università degli Studi di Padova in Italy. During my PhD studies, I spent one year as a guest at the Institut National Polytechnique de Toulouse (INPT). I then spent nearly 3 years in Toulouse for different post doc projects at UPS-CNRS and INPT. I moved to Lausanne in late 2009 for a post-doc project at the Institut de Géophysique.
