Research
After multi-disciplinary environmental studies, Damien Jougnot focused his research on environmental geophysics applied to unsaturated porous media. During his PhD thesis, Damien worked on the physical relation between geoelectrical measurements (electrical resistivity, spectral induced polarization, and self potential) and transport properties in porous media (ionic diffusion, hydraulic conductivity and thermal conductivity). This work was applied to a very low permeability clay-rock in order to better understand how the potential drying of a host rock might affect the migration of nuclear waste. Damien is now a post-doctoral researcher in the group of Niklas Linde at the Institute of Geophysics. His present research focuses on how spectral induced polarization and self-potential data can be used to better understand, quantify, and predict vadose zone processes from the laboratory to the field scale.
