Research

My PhD project is part of the Ensemble Project (www.ensemble-modeling.org), which aims at integrate the different methods for stochastic ensemble aquifer modeling and increase our comprehension of complex hydrological systems.
The physics that need to be modeled in these contexts are becoming increasingly complex, and therefore require the development of advanced multiscale numerical schemes.
However, solving complex physical problems for highly heterogeneous formations involves intense computation, making uncertainty assessment unfeasible. The solution often adopted consists of making simplifying approximations in the geological or in the physical model. My research consists in systematically exploring the impact of those simplifications on the forecasts of the model.
