Presentation
  • Research in the Institute of Mineralogy and Geochemistry concentrates on studying the origin and subsequent erosion of rocks and minerals, and their chemical interaction with subterranean water.
  • These geological and geochemical processes are directly linked to the bedrock formation and present day development of the alpine region, the Swiss plateau, and the Jura mountains.
  • The Institute is equipped with first class laboratory instruments (electronic microprobe, mass spectrometer, micro-analysis by laser ablation, etc.)
  • which enable elements and their isotopes in rocks, minerals, or water to be measured with great accuracy to a micrometric scale.
