Housing
Priority is given to exchange students for accomodation in the university halls of residence. First priority for students from overseas, then students from Europe. We usually manage to place all exchange students. However there is currently a severe shortage of accomodation possibilities in Lausanne, and we now cannot guarantee that we will be able to place all European exchange students in the University halls of residence.
Please note that university halls of residence are open to bachelor and master students only. Advanced studies and continuing education students (Master of Advanced Studies) have not access to university halls of residence.
Cost of living
Around CHF 1,850 per month (more details)
Language requirements
- Level B2 of the CEFR for regular course taught in French and English (more info)
- Level A1 for the courses offered by the School of French as a Foreign Language (EFLE), and the winter Holiday Courses (Cours de vacances)
- No minimum skills required for the summer Holiday Courses
Deadlines for exchange applications
Student exchange applications must reach us by March 31 for the autumn semester, and by October 15 for the spring semester.
Undergraduate students in graduate courses?
In the Faculty of Business and Economics, and in the School of Biology, master's level courses are open to graduate students only. If a prospective undergraduate exchange student can show proof of minimum 3 years of specialised studies in the field chosen for the exchange at the UNIL, admission may be granted.
Attending courses in several faculties or at the EPFL
Students can attend courses in all faculties. It is possible to attend one or two courses at the EPFL if the EPFL professor consents to it.
Restricted courses
The courses offered in the following programmes are not open to exchange students, unless a specific agreement exists:
- Courses of the School of Medicine
- Master of Science in Accounting, Control and Finance
- Executive programmes (Master of advanced studies)
Credits for courses which are part of a module
Some faculties group courses into modules, and credits are allocated to the module.
- Faculty of Arts: Exchange students can take part of the courses belonging to a module and get credits for each course.
- School of Biology: Students have to take all the courses belonging to a module if they want to get credits.
- For other faculties and schools, contact us!
Credits for the "Cours de vacances"
Students can get credits if they enroll for at least 6 weeks and take the ECTS credits programme (more info). This possibility is available only for the summer courses.
Transcript
The transcript is sent by the Faculty to the home university within four weeks after the end of the examination session (academic calendar).
