Curriculum Vitae
Verena Schaeffer studied geography and spatial planning at the Free University of Berlin. During and after these studies, she worked for five years in a city planning agency in Berlin, where she participated in projects of regional development as well as in the promotion of urban cooperation networks. Following this experience she worked for two years in a research programme of the Technical University of Berlin. The objective of this programme was to accompany and consult the actors of innovative regional development processes of model regions in Germany in order to facilitate a sustainable development. From 2003 to 2004 she was collaborating at the Committee of the Regions, an institution of the European Union in Brussels. Before she joined the IPTEH, she worked for one year at the University of Fribourg (Switzerland), where she was charged to prepare and organize a research stay in Berlin for the bachelor students in Geography.
Research domains
In September 2005 she joined the group of Prof. Jean Ruegg in the IPTEH, where she is writing a PhD thesis on governance processes in the context of the creation of sustainable neighbourhoods. The general objective of her work is to examine how the offer of sustainable settlement can be increased and how its quality can be improved. Particularly, this means to analyse the functioning of the governance processes of urban sustainable neighbourhoods.
