Manéli Farahmand is the director of the Geneva-based Intercantonal Information Center on Beliefs. She holds a joint PhD from the Universities of Lausanne (Switzerland) and Ottawa (Canada), for which she received the Price of excellence from the Vaudoise Scientific Society. Her PhD research focused on contemporary religiosities (new religious movements, neo-Shamanism, indigenous spiritualities) in Switzerland and in Extra-European contexts (Mexico and Guatemala), from a transnational perspective. She worked as PhD assistant at the Institute for Social Sciences of Religions at the University of Lausanne. She was also lecturer at the Universities of Lausanne and Fribourg, teaching on contemporary religiosities and ethnographic methods. Before her PhD, she worked several years for international organizations specializing in human rights, as project manager, events coordinator and fundraiser. Her professional experiences led her to carry out ethnographic fieldworks and humanitarian missions abroad.

 

She has held positions within the International Society for the Sociology of Religions (ISSR): President of the scientific program, and local coordinator of conferences. She is currently the swiss representative on the ISSR International Council.

 

She is affiliated to the Institute for Social Sciences of Religions (University of Lausanne) and to the Department of Social Sciences of the University of Fribourg.
