The early Toarcian oceanic anoxic event and its sedimentary record in Switzerland

The early Toarcian (Early Jurassic: ~183 Ma) oceanic anoxic event (OAE) represents an episode of paleoenvironmental and paleoclimatic change of global dimensions, which affected especially marine life. Whereas this episode is well documented in Great Britain, Germany, France, and Portugal, the Swiss sedimentary archives have not been studied in the same detail, in spite of the large number of very diverse outcrops. In this project, we study sections in the Jura Mountains and Plateau, the Helvetic and Ultrahelvetic zones, the Briançonnais, and the southern Alps. These sections will provide essential information on the evolution of the early Toarcian OAE across the Early Jurassic Tethys.
