Ion probe
Cameca IMS 1280-HR
The IMS 1280-HR is the latest ion microprobe manufactured by CAMECA. A wide range of elements (from H to Pb) can be obtained with an unequalled analytical performance, even for low contents (< 1ppm). The new design of the ion probe allows the precise determination of a large number of isotopic systems with an excellent precision, due to its capability to reach very high mass resolution (> 20 000). The lateral resolution is usually 10 µm, but could be as low as 2 µm. Depth resolution is in the order of hundreds of nm.
The ion probe has been delivered late August 2012. The installation ended early December 2012. After several months of development, scientific measurements are can now start. The inauguration of CASA (Center for Advanced Surface Analysis) platform, which includes the SwissSIMS, will take place at UNIL on June 13th and 14th, 2013.

For bookings, users are asked to fill in the ion probe application form. A full day of analysis is charged 800 CHF for SNF-funded projects. For all other projects users are invited to email the person in charge of the lab to be informed on the applied fees.
