LINES in brief

LINES is a research center defined by its research domain on life course studies and social inequalities. The study of life courses is approached through an interdisciplinary perspective that analyses individual life trajectories and their dynamics both at the individual level and at the level of cohorts, institutions, and social policies. Social inequalities are analysed through concepts like social class, education, gender, generations, and national or ethnic identities. Research addresses the causes, the development, the reproduction of inequalities as well as their individual and social consequences. LINES is also interested in social representations, their relation to social norms and social groups. LINES research program focuses on substantive and methodological issues, mostly in a longitudinal and multilevel perspective, with the aim of understanding continuity and change in life course trajectories and social inequalities.
