Jean-François Brakeland is the Head of the "Legal aspects of trade policy" Unit in Directorate General for Trade of the European Commission. That unit is responsible for the management of all WTO disputes in which the EC is involved, and it provides internal legal advice on issues of WTO law and institutional questions relating to trade policy. In his 15-year career in the European Commission, JF Brakeland mainly worked on trade issues, but was also involved in the negotiations of the Nice and Lisbon treaties. He also worked in the private office of the Commissioner for Development, Louis Michel.
