Circumstances decreed that Jean Monnet, the Father of the United Europe, should preserve the archives of the experiences which led him to lay the foundations of this construction. In giving his archives in 1978 to the Jean Monnet Foundation for Europe which he had himself created, he laid on it the task of creating a testimonial to the conflicts, the reconciliation and union of Europeans. His hope was that future generations would transmit, each to the next, the accumulated benefit of this experience.
