Research Interests

My research interest is the structural remodeling of the human brain during pathology. Plasticity, the ability of the brain to grow and reform itself, is at the heart of my research core. Using advanced magnetic resonance imaging, I have accomplished studies aimed at identifying plasticity mechanisms for functional recuperation after acute brain injuries like stroke and pursued the investigation of microstructural brain changes in patients affected by migraine, neuroHIV and multiple sclerosis compared to healthy subjects.

My current research focus on applying high and ultra-high field advanced MRI techniques to investigate early biomarkers of Multiple Sclerosis and potential non-invasive monitoring strategies. The innovative approach contemplated by this work is the development of a comprehensive tool, including the most advanced MRI markers of disease as well as serological data and clinical scores that might be used for early diagnosis and to help better predict the evolution of a disease notoriously varied in its path.
