Olivier's research interests include medical image segmentation, the incorporation of anatomical, pathological or physical knowledge into image analysis. He focuses on approaches that allow real-time user interaction or very short waiting times, thus providing tools that can be used efficiently in real clinical practice.
Olivier was born in Belgium in January 1973. He received the Electrical Engineering degree and the PhD degree from the Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL), Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, in 1995 and 1999, respectively. His Master thesis was co-supervised by Prof. Ferran Marquès at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Spain. His PhD thesis was supervised by Prof. Benoît Macq at UCL. He was briefly a visiting scientist with Prof. Simon Warfield at Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA.
In 2000, he joined the Signal Processing Institute (ITS) of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland. From 2001 to 2006 he was first assistant of Prof. Murat Kunt. In 2006, he joined Philips Healthcare and became part of the Medisys research group in Suresnes, France. He contributed numerous tools, methods and code to the Extended Brilliance Workspace and Intellispace Portal solutions.
Since May 2012, he is senior scientist with MIAL, working on CEUS image processing in collaboration with Bracco Suisse SA in Geneva with the support of the Commission for Technology and Innovation (CTI) of the Confédération Suisse.
