Bayesian Statistics and Applications for Phylogenetics

The objective of this course is to introduce the key concepts in Bayesian inference in phylogenetics. Bayesian techniques have changed the way phylogenetic reconstruction can be done and provide a framework to extend current implementation of evolutionary models. We will illustrate this by mixing lectures on basic theory of Bayesian inference with tutorials on two recent software programs widely used in phylogenetics. The course will give an opportunity to better understand how Bayesian inference works and provide a short but concise introduction to its application to study molecular evolution as well as macro-evolutionary hypothesis testing.

Day 2 - June 8
9 am - 11 am: Bayesian modeling in evolution (D. Silvestro)
11 am - 1 pm: tutorial on BEAST (N. Salamin/D. Silvestro)
2 pm - 5 pm: BEAST + phylobayes tutorials (N. Salamin/D. Silvestro, N. Lartillot)

Prerequisites: PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, who completed the first module of the course "Bayesian Models for Population Genomics"or with equivalent knowledge. Participants need to bring their own laptop.
This is an advanced module, please make sure you fulfill the prerequisites before registering!
The course is organized in the framework of the SNF Doctoral Program Population Genomics. Therefore, priority is given to PhD students enroled in this doctoral program until May 11, 2012.
