Introduction

Inaugurated in 2019, the Interdisciplinary Centre of Life Course Research (CIR LIVES-UNIL) studies the effects of economy and society on the evolution of situations of vulnerability through longitudinal and comparative studies. It aims to understand the emergence and evolution of vulnerability and how to overcome it in order to foster innovative socio-political measures.

One of the missions of the CIR LIVES-UNIL is to promote the interdisciplinarity of its research as well as the exchange between researchers and fields of studies. It brings together the faculties of Social and Political Sciences (SSP), Biology and Medicine (BMBF), Law, Criminal Sciences and Public Administration (FDCA), Theology and Religious Sciences (FTSR) and Higher Commercial Studies (HEC).

The CIR LIVES-UNIL collaborates with cantonal or communal authorities as well as other civil society actors in order to apply the methods developed by the research teams.

The CIR LIVES-UNIL is attached to the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. It is one of the two poles of the Swiss Centre of Expertise in Life Course Research (LIVES Centre), based in Lausanne and Geneva Universities.

The LIVES Centre is the result of the national LIVES research centre (NCCR LIVES 2011-2022) "Overcoming vulnerability: a life-course perspective".
