Presentation

I am a Senior Lecturer in 18th-century and Romantic Literature at the English Department here at Unil. I was educated at the University of Zurich and University of California, Los Angeles. The human rights discourse and the colonial matrix developing in 18th-centruy Britain underlie my keen interest in gender, (post)colonial and Transatlantic studies.

My current work combines all these interests, as I'm writing a monograph that examines cosmopolitan attitudes in literary works of British Enlightenment and Romanticism. The book assembles novels, travel writing, children's literature and poetry published between the 1760s and the 1820s, aiming to show key modifications that the cosmopolitan tradition inherited by the Stoics and Cynic underwent during this period of imperial rivalries and revolutions.
