Garrido Sarda Maria Rosa

My main research interests include language, mobilities and social exclusion; the sociolinguistic construction of transnational identities; and multilingualism in globalised workplaces. My on-going postdoc project "Humanitarians on the move" (previously at Université de Fribourg, 2015-17) investigates the management of linguistic resources at a major international organization with a focus on mobile workers' trajectories across linguistic and national borders for humanitarian work. My PhD dissertation (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, 2014) is a multi-sited, critical ethnography of a transnational social movement called Emmaus. It explores the linguistic, discursive and semiotic (re)production of a transnational Emmaus community and its local appropriations in different socio-political, linguistic and historical contexts.
