The Practicing English Proficiency (PEP) programme is for students who would like extra language support. Students are encouraged to subscribe to the PEP Moodle page (no key needed) for resource lists and up-to-date information about events and workshops being run as part of the PEP programme.

In light of the current health situation, all PEP activities will be held online. Please join the PEP Moodle page to ensure that you see the announcements.

If you would like to practice with particular grammar features or listening comprehension, we encourage you to visit the Centre de langues, also located in the Anthropole building. They have a multimedia space (Anthropole 1060) with an extensive searchable repository of exercises (PlurieL), as well as other resources. All students are welcome to use the lab during the périodes de libre accès. You can learn more about the apprentissage individuel libre here.

In complement, the English department participates in the CLAD language accreditation process, for students who would like to attend HEP after completing their degree at UNIL. For more information about CLAD, please visit the main CLAD website or the department’s information page.

For more details about available support, please contact Jennifer Thorburn.

Proficiency Test

All students taking first-year classes must take part in a proficiency assessment within the first three weeks of the semester. The assessment takes two hours and should be done outside of class time.

The assessment normally takes place on campus; however, due to the current health situation, we will be conducting these assessments online in Autumn 2020.

You can sign up to take the test here:

You must sign up at least 48 hours in advance of the time slot to ensure that you will receive the Zoom link and be able to participate.

You will need your Unil username and password to access test materials. Please contact the Centre informatique if you do have not received and/or activated your credentials.

Please ensure that you are able to share your screen in Zoom in case you need assistance from a  proctor. This may involve checking your settings and restarting your computer so it's best to test this ahead of time.
