Current Research Interests

Currently, SB is preparing to leave for his upcoming Postdoc.Mobility fellowship at Lancaster University and Manchester Metropolitan University from March 2023 to February 2026. During this time, he will be conducting research on impoliteness in political dialogue with a concentration on the rhetoric of Former President Donald J. Trump. During his Assistantship, SB’s research interests lied primarily in the field of corpus pragmatics. His PhD project investigated change in the usage of colloquial discourse markers in published written texts. He has also done research on constructional change occurring with the ‘sarcastic much?’ construction using corpus data from online sources. Beyond his primary interests listed above, he has also done research on varieties of English and language contact. In particular, he conducted a side research project on the bilingual the Cajun population of Southwest Louisiana.
