Research interests

My main research interest is determining the origin of asexual reproduction. Under this scope, I would like to know the causes and effects of transitions from sexual to asexual reproduction; to answer why several reproduction systems co-exist; and to study how the environmental changes could affect reproductive systems. These topics are relevant because of the impact that different reproductive modes have in the genetic diversity, population structure, speciation rates and extinction.
To accomplish this aim, I consider two approaches: investigating the mechanism inducing parthenogenesis; and testing how reproductive modes affect species success depending on the environmental conditions.
I pursue to answer these questions using my multidisciplinary background considering the biological, evolutionary, ecological and bioinformatics perspective.
