My main interest range from animal ecology to wildlife conservation. My PhD research is mainly focused on the snow leopard (Panthera uncia), status and conservation in North-Western Mongolia.
The species is listed as “Endangered” in the IUCN red list. This rare, elusive big cat, must fronts many different threats. The major threats seem to be the poaching, the conflict with local herders, the habitat degradation due to the global warming but also due to the increasing number of goats for cashmere production. The aim of my work is to understand how the various threats affect currently and in the future, the Mongolian distribution and abundancy of the snow leopard. The study is addressed to verify and assess the status of various subpopulations present in the NW Mongolia, their actual level of conservation and the threats they are facing within and outside protected areas and to develop a strategy to reach a viable snow leopard metapopulation in the Western region of Mongolia.
